TREASURERS REPORT: Jeff N1SOM gave the treasurer's report. For the month of April, the Club had an opening
balance of $1,524.77, income of $23.44, total expenses of $244.90, and an ending balance
of $1,303.31. Ed N1NTZ made a motion to accept the treasurer's report, the motion was
seconded, and approved as read. OLD BUSINESS: Just a reminder that the Flea Market is taking place at Saftler's parking lot Sunday,
May 24th and Monday, May 25th. NEW BUSINESS Walt K1BZD brought up the subject of Net Control, and had some pointers. One was for the
control to repeat back the list of check in's, so if anyone was missed, they could check in
again. The other pointer was to ask what the traffic was immediately after a check in with
traffic. Then the person with traffic could state that he had traffic for whatever town,
and if someone were listening who could handle the traffic, they would know to stay on the net
until the traffic was passed. Gil WA1GDJ reported on recent fox hunt activities. For last Saturday's fox hunt, the first
National Fox Hunt, he was the fox. John N1ZZP made up certificates for participants.
Gil also mentioned that his web page had links to sites with instructions for attenuators. This is the last meeting to be held at Heights Crossing in Brockton until next October.
We are back on the summer schedule of the first and third Monday at the Quonset Hut on
Pine Street in Whitman. Bob KA1PGU reminded the members of the VE session being held May 12th at the
Stoughton High School at 7:00. He has 6 class members taking the test.
Any others wanting to be tested are welcome. George N1ZZO passed his 13 words per minute and got his General license.
Congratulations George.
ADJOURNMENT: Ed N1NTZ made a motion to adjourn the meeting and go on to our guest speaker, Walt K1BZD
seconded the motion, the motion was approved and presentation began.
GUEST SPEAKER PRESENTATION: Compliance with the FCC New RF Safety Guidelines, given by Lewis Collins W1GXT Lew gave an excellent presentation of the new RF guidelines. The guidelines are meant to
protect humans from damage by magnetic exposure. Full compliance by the ham community must be
met by September 1, 2000. Evaluation is not required for mobile or portable, and below certain transmitter power.
Also most repeater stations are exempt, depending on height and mounting. More information can be found on the Internet at: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/rfsafety http:/www.arrl.org/news/rfsafety References are also available through ARRL handbooks and articles in QST magazine.
The January 98 issue, pages 50-55 had what many consider to be the best article. Lew is an independent consultant, specializing in broadcasting and sound systems, land, mobile
and wireless, cable television, telephone and computer communications, communications security,
and satellite communications. He can be reached by: LCollinsMA@aol.com 508-358-5813 10 Marshall Terrace Wayland, MA 01778-1104 WHITMAN AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, INC. TREASURER'S NOTES OF THE MEETING OF MAY 18TH 1998 OPENING: Members started arriving about 7:00 at the Club house on Pine Street in Whitman.

kilowatts. A motion was made by Gil WA1GDJ to purchase it for $350.00 it was seconded by
Ed N1NTZ, and the motion was approved. It was also highly suggested that anyone using computers
should use an UPS protector and a surge
protector for the rigs. The generator will be modified for Club use which will be to replace
the gas tank and make it remote so Club members won't refill a hot generator. Walt K1BZD mentioned that the National Weather Service would be on 3.945 MHz between 10am to

Lew Collins W1GXT who gave a lecture at the Club of May 4th RF safety guide lines. Bruce
suggested that the Club should send Lew a thank you letter and maybe a certificate of
appreciation for his time. Jeff N1SOM who originally contacted Lew through the Norwood Amateur

got it at Cable Expert Company for $30.00 and the price included 10 RG8 connectors. Vic N1OEH: recently bought a new battery for his FT-530 at Advanced Battery Systems, Inc. in
